My Memories Of Halloween

I've been thinking recently, about how much I loved Halloween as a kid. Carving pumpkins, spending the day getting exited, getting mum to paint my face, getting sick after eating sweets, you know, the usual things. It makes me sad that I will never be as excited as I was then. Don't get me wrong, I still love Halloween! But it's just not the same is it? I can't do the things I once did as a child, like eat tonnes of sweets without caring about the calories and sugar intake! I can't go knocking around the street exclaiming "TRICK OR TREAT!", instead I need to supervise my little sister, remind her to say thank you, and kindly decline any sweets offered my way (because its the polite thing to do and the kids will cherish them more than me... right?). Because of this, I've decided to take a trip down memory lane, and share some of stories of Halloween.

Let's start on my most sad Halloween shall we? I was about 6 or 7, and very very excited for Halloween. I decided I was going to be a witch, as per usual, and was counting down the hours till we'd venture out into the streets and collect our sweets! (Haribo packets for the win am I right?) Anyways, I was patiently sitting in the lounge when suddenly my ears started ringing and I had terrible pain in both my ears and my head. Even though it hurt a lot, I was adamant to still go trick or treating, bc sweets. Despite my determination to fight the pain, dear old mum decided for my own good that I "shouldn't go out this Halloween and stay inside". I tell you right now, my heart shattered. I obliged, and sat at my front window, peering over my sofa, as I saw all my friends from school wander the streets in their cool costumes, laughing and having fun, while I was in pain and was forced to give away all the sweets to the dressed up children. Not fair.

Skip ahead a few years of being witches and maybe the odd vampire later, and I we come to these horrific tale. My friends and I were trick or treating in the pouring rain dressed up in netted neon skirts, vests, massive rain coats, some funky leg warmers, and very dramatic makeup smearing our faces. However, it wasn't the fact that it was raining that made us so upset, or that every house that we went to asked us who we were supposed to be either! (I mean come on, we were  obviously emo fairies) It was more of the fact that we decided to walk down a dark alley with a torches like the rebels we were, until A STUPID IDIOT SCREAMED AND JUMPED OUT AT US WITH HIS STUPID BARKING DOG AND HIS STUPID FREAKY MASK AND SCARE THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS OUT OF US! It was so not okay, and it makes me angry every time.

So while we're at it, I might as well tell you about last Halloween! I went to my first ever Halloween party ever last year (HOORAH!), but I kind of didn't know what to wear so went with the easy option of being Wednesday Adams. I wore a top with a peter pan collar underneath, a black dress with teeny flowers, and had my hair in two plaits just like she does, so I thought I really looked the part! Until I got there and realized that 90% of the people there had never watched it so I was left looking like a fool (uncultured swines). So I went back home to switch my makeup up a bit, to up looking like a dead maid or whatever. Spooky. Also, I forgot to mention that I went to this party with my family, and I was put in charge of the children. So while my parents where having fun dancing and getting intoxicated, I was organinsing games of hide and seek, as well as wrapping kids in toilet roll to become mummies. I did get a tenner out of it though, so I guess it was worth it. I guess.

What's one of your favourite memories of Halloween?

Telling you my weird dreams #2

Welcome back to "Telling you my weird dreams"! This one is a bit more of a novel than a dream (okay, debatable, but I think it could easily be the next blockbuster movie). Any whom, its very weird so this makes it absolutely perfect to write about. It's also very very long, so be warned.

(bare in mind that I can't remember every single detail, so I've written it to work around what I do remember and what I think I saw. I am no author, I'm just explaining my dream to you all :3 )

The dream starts on a plane. From what I recall, my family and I were told that we were heading to a safe place, because that due to climate change and the shortage of water, we needed to escape. So everything was fine and dandy up in the sky, until the captain of the plane decided to break his bad news, that everyone aged 10 to 20 had their last chance to say goodbye to their loved ones. There was a lot of crying and screaming about what was going on, but it was all cut off by a sudden blackness.

I woke up with my brother lying next to me, in what looked like a school hall where assemblies are held. Along the hall were windows with ugly patterned curtains drawn closed, and on either side there were two wooden doors, one that led into a kitchen (that led to a bathroom), and  another that was locked closed. After exploring the contents of the hall, kitchen and bathroom, we found a bath full of water, a few bananas, breakfast bars and a note that read: "This is all you have. We need your help. Good luck." I remember rationing the food and water, too scared to draw open the curtains to see what was outside. The taps didn't work, so we could only drink water from the bath, and never washed. What a sweet life.

A day or two later, I got fed up of moping around, missing family, and being completely traumatized with what was going on. While my brother was sleeping I cracked open the curtains to get a glimpse of the outside world. For as far as the eye could see was a dry expanse of land,  with little shacks polka dotted around the place. I saw a big group of people walk together, with one guy at the front who I assumed was their leader. Suddenly a face sprung up in font of the window and I screamed, waking up my brother. At the locked door, we heard repetitive thumps and banging as they tried to get inside. The face at the window abruptly stormed through the door, their slim and frail body pouncing at me, clasping their hands around my neck. (Like dude, what did I ever do?) Even though they looked weak, they were very strong, but he decided to stop and put these headphones that came out of nowhere (logic) and placed them on my head. In utter panic I pressed the headphones into my ears and listened; it was a muffled voice screaming at me in desperation, trying to tell me where I could find "the water". But they were cut off- maybe by a government? The face turned out to be a boy but he ran off , and the group I saw outside walked in the hall.

The group took me and my brother in. (I can't remember what happened before then). They took us up to a long line of cars that had people in. They explained that when someone got sick, they would lock them in cars so they couldn't spread their illness, because it was highly contagious and extremely dangerous. Also, they were impossible to kill, they could only die a slow and natural death. So basically ,they kept them in their to die. In one car, I noticed a woman inside with two sparse looking dogs, one eating at her dead body, the other yapping and scratching at the window, trying to escape I guess. Or just going mad. That's where my dream ended. Nice.

I'm sorry if I scared you half to death with my weird dream, It was after I finished "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials", so my only guess is that it was inspired by that. I actually quite enjoyed it surprisingly!!

Much love,

Telling you my weird dreams #1

I've decided to create a little series on my blog to share with you some of my weird and wonderful dreams, as I love listening to what goes on in peoples brains while they're asleep, and thought that so might you! Every time I have a weird dream or remember a weird dream that I want to share, I'll try as best as I can to write it up in words so we can share the odd stories that occur in my mind together. I thought it would bring something fresh and original to my blog, so I hope you enjoy!!

Okay so this is a dream I had a couple of weeks ago that I absolutely love sharing with people. It started with me sitting at a dressing table in my room (odd since I don't have one), looking in bewilderment at my eyebrows. I wanted them to be perfect so I grabbed a tweezers and plucked away, without thinking about what I was really doing. I know one thing though, and that is that I wanted a strong eyebrow game that people would say were "on fleek". However, every time I plucked, the hair just wasn't going anywhere. Like it just kept growing back! Fed up, I got a shaver and started trying to remove my eyebrow hair this way. (I actually tried this once when I was in year 7, please I beg you do not do this). Obviously, I ended up shaving my whole eyebrow off, I mean duh what else was going to happen. Therefore, in distress I had no other hope but calling the EYEBROW REPAIR MAN. Imagine if that was a thing though, wouldn't that be like the best thing ever? Anyway. So the guy came over and inspected my brows, then introduced me to his dog. For any of you wondering, the dog looked like this. Yes somehow I remember what the dog looked like. His dog was more than happy to help, so picked up an eyebrow pencil from thin air and drew my eyebrow back on for me. You know, because dogs are talented at that sort of thing. Drawing on eyebrows. Then that's where my dream ended there. What puzzled me the most is why when I woke up, I actually thought the dream was real and a dog really did draw on my eyebrow. Hm.

Should an eyebrow repair man/lady be a thing? Also, feel free to share any of your weird dreams with me in the comments!!
Much love,

What's inside my inside my memory box?

A couple of days ago I was sat bored in my room, when I felt a sudden urge to sort out and organise my draws. Over the years I have collected a whole bunch of clutter and unnecessary items, which I didn't know what to do with. So me being me would just shove it in my draws to forget about it. This has been going on for as long as I can remember, so the attempted to empty my draws. However my attempt at emptying my draws turned out to be futile, due to my utter distraction after finding piles and piles of nostalgic items. I probably spent an hour sitting on my bedroom floor feeling all gooey inside from the feels. I knew I wanted to keep these items all together in one place, so found an old shoe box to collect them all in. So this is how my memory box came to existence, and this is what's inside:

  • 3 concert tickets, from seeing Take That, One Direction, and 5 Seconds of Summer.
  • Two loom band figures; a marshmallow and a pear.
  • A "Pop Party" CD. (I just popped it into my laptop and am listening to it now. I'm half loving it, half cringing.)
  • 3 hand written letters. One from my boyfriend, one from my old best friend while I was on holiday in Egypt, and one from my Au-Pair. I love these, they're probably my favourite things from the box and tear me up every time.
  • 3 journals from a catholic summer camp that I attend, from 2013, 2014 and 2015. The reason I love these so much is because each person in your "small group" will write a message about you, saying what they like about you and anything else they want to add. It's great for a good confidence boost, especially since they're all so nice and warmhearted, so it helps you focus on your positives rather than any negatives. This is one of my favourites too.
  • A disc that has a video of me and my friend singing and dancing to a song by Jessie J from 2012.
  • My favourite Christmas and birthday cards.
  • Jewelry from when I was little.
  • A good luck cat from my Nan.
  • Loads and loads and loads of cringey photos.
  • My diary from when I was twelve years old. My handwriting back then was disgraceful, and I thought I was much cooler than I really was. Lets not talk about my twelve year old self again shall we?
  • A pebble that my friend got from the tooth fairy.
  • My table name card from my Aunt's and Uncle's wedding, a long with the poem I read during their ceremony.
  • A card with details of where we stayed on our trip to France in year seven.
  • Half of a best friend necklace.

So that is everything that was in my memory box, and it was a delight to share it with you. If you don't already have a memory box, I really really recommend making one. It's not just good for keeping all your memories and keepsakes together, it's great to look through when you're feeling down and need a good pick me up.

Have you got a memory box? What's your most fond memory?

Lots of love,
